House and Community Building Information

The bath house is on the left in this view, and the
community center entrance is on the right.
This view would be from the tennis courts closest to the
parking lot.
Rebuilding the pool
house: For those of you wondering what’s happening with the pool
bath house building at Rattan Creek Park and why is it taking so long to
rebuild, here is the story. The pool bath house burned down in
August of 2006. Initial plans to replace the building were started
when these plans ran into snags with the City of Austin.
Since January of
2007 until May of 2007, the M.U.D. Board of Directors had
worked with the City of Austin and legal counsel to
establish the district's right to redevelop the site at all.
Changes in the Health Codes and laws dealing with handicap
access required that a larger building had to be built - a
larger building meant that the City of Austin's site
development regulations had to be met even before the design
and planning of a building could begin. The long term dream
for many residents and the directors was to have a community
building so that the board could meet in the district and
neighborhood groups would also have the use of such a
building. It made sense to plan a combined project of the
replacement pool bath house and a community building while
going through the site development process. Finally in May
of 2007, the City agreed that the district had the right to
develop the park site and the actual design work on the
building could begin. This was also the beginning of having
to go through the City's normal development and planning
approval process.
We solicited the help of an architect and made some rough
sketches and developed a plan. The plan replaces the old
concrete block 1,400
square foot pool bath house with a one story, five thousand square foot
community center with a large meeting room, a kitchen, some staff
offices, storage rooms, a conference room, and an office for
use by the Williamson County Sheriff's Department. And
attached to this building by an attractive breezeway is an
1800 square foot air-conditioned and heated pool bath house
with locker rooms, showers and restrooms for the Rattan
Creek Pool.
Groundbreaking was held on February
25, 2008: The pool bath house and pool
entrance will have priority during the construction scheduled and
it is hoped to have that portion of the project completed in
time for the summer season so that the pool will be able to be open
and in operation.
At the beginning of construction, the target date for
completion of the pool bath house is June 8, 2008, although
every effort will be made for an earlier completion.
Temporary buildings will be brought in early in May so that
the normal early May pool opening can be met for the
neighborhood swim team practices and other hearty souls who
like to swim while it is still a bit chilly. The Community Building will not
be completed until late August or September.
